Wainua is an antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) that reduces transthyretin (TTR) production. Hereditary ATTR amyloidosis (hATTR) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder caused by mutations in TTR — abnormal TTR forms amyloid deposits in peripheral nerves (causing polyneuropathy), heart (cardiomyopathy), and other tissues. How Wainua Works:
