Don’t let the high cost of brand HIV integrase inhibitor therapy disrupt your treatment. We help eligible patients access Tivicay (dolutegravir) for as little as $69.95 per month through the manufacturer’s Patient Assistance Program.
The Tivicay Prescription Assistance Program is a manufacturer-sponsored initiative that provides Tivicay at little or no medication cost to qualifying patients based on income and insurance status. The program is designed for HIV treatment patients who are uninsured or underinsured, as well as Medicare Part D beneficiaries.
Navigating the program on your own means dealing with eligibility verification, HIV provider coordination, prior-authorization documentation, and renewal deadlines.
AffordMyPrescriptions eliminates that burden. For a flat $69.95 per month, our Patient Advocates handle every step of your enrollment, from initial application through ongoing refill coordination and annual re-certification.

Tivicay (dolutegravir, DTG) is a once-daily integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) used as a component of HIV-1 antiretroviral therapy. It must be combined with other antiretrovirals (NRTI backbone, or rilpivirine in the case of suppressed adults). Dolutegravir has a particularly high genetic barrier to resistance.
How Tivicay Works:
HIV-1 replication requires integrase — a viral enzyme that splices the HIV DNA copy into the host cell’s chromosomes. Without integration, HIV cannot establish persistent infection. INSTIs block this critical step.
Dolutegravir binds HIV integrase at the active site and prevents strand transfer — blocking integration of viral DNA into the host genome. Dolutegravir has a particularly high genetic barrier to resistance, meaning HIV needs to accumulate multiple mutations before becoming resistant — this makes dolutegravir-based regimens more forgiving of occasional missed doses than older HIV drugs.
Form and use:
Tivicay is taken by mouth once daily (or twice daily in patients with INSTI resistance). Available as 10, 25, and 50 mg tablets. Tivicay PD is a 5 mg dispersible tablet for pediatric dosing. Can be taken with or without food. Avoid taking with calcium, iron, magnesium, or aluminum supplements within 2 hours before or 6 hours after.
Generic availability:
There is no generic Tivicay in the U.S. as of 2026. Dolutegravir is also available in fixed-dose combinations: Dovato (DTG/3TC), Triumeq (DTG/ABC/3TC), and Juluca (DTG/RPV). The combination tablets simplify dosing for patients who are also taking other ARVs. HIV guidelines recommend INSTI-based regimens as first-line therapy.
Warnings:
Tivicay carries warnings for hypersensitivity reactions including DRESS (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms), hepatotoxicity (especially with HBV/HCV co-infection), depression/suicidality (rare), immune reconstitution syndrome, embryo-fetal toxicity (initial concern about neural tube defects from preliminary Botswana data, mostly reassured by larger subsequent studies), and weight gain (a class effect with INSTIs). Significant drug interactions occur with polyvalent cations, rifampin, rifabutin, certain antiepileptics, and St. John’s wort.
Tivicay costs approximately $2,200–$2,500 per 30-day supply. Through AffordMyPrescriptions, qualifying patients receive Tivicay at no medication cost — our $69.95 monthly fee covers full advocacy and program management.
Most adults take dolutegravir as part of a fixed-dose combination (Dovato, Triumeq, or with separate NRTIs). Standalone Tivicay is useful when the NRTI backbone needs to be different from the fixed-dose options (e.g., specific resistance mutations, kidney dysfunction limiting tenofovir or abacavir use), or in pediatric patients where weight-based dosing of each component matters. Some adults also take Tivicay alongside generic abacavir/lamivudine to mimic Triumeq at lower cost.
Polyvalent cations (calcium, iron, magnesium, aluminum, zinc) significantly reduce dolutegravir absorption. Take Tivicay either 2 hours before or 6 hours after any cation-containing supplement or antacid. Many multivitamins contain enough cations to be relevant — discuss with your pharmacist.
Yes. Polyvalent cations (as above). Rifampin and rifabutin reduce dolutegravir levels — dose adjustments needed. Certain antiepileptics (carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, oxcarbazepine) reduce levels. St. John’s wort reduces levels. Dofetilide is contraindicated. Tell every prescriber and pharmacist about Tivicay.
Initial data from Botswana raised concern about neural tube defects with first-trimester dolutegravir exposure. Subsequent larger studies have shown that the absolute risk is small and dolutegravir-based regimens are generally considered acceptable in pregnancy, though folate supplementation and counseling are recommended. Decisions during pregnancy should be made with HIV expert input.
Yes. Medicare Part D beneficiaries can typically qualify, especially if you face specialty-tier copays. State ADAP programs may also coordinate with Medicare for HIV-treatment patients.
If denied, we explore alternatives — switching to a dolutegravir combination tablet with its own PAP (Dovato, Triumeq, Juluca), state ADAP, the manufacturer’s copay program for commercially insured patients, or independent foundations. If we cannot find a path, you won’t be charged our service fee.
